When we think about measuring AI products, most teams start with model metrics like accuracy or recall. That is natural. But after working with many PMs in this space, I can tell you the real signals of success are often hidden. They live in how much users trust the system, how satisfied they feel, and how engaged they remain over time.
These are the metrics that actually tell you whether your AI product is working in the real world.
Trust
Trust is the foundation. If users do not trust the AI, they will not use it, no matter how accurate it is.
Trust score: ask users directly if they trust the output.
Correction rate: how often do users edit or override AI suggestions?
Escalation rate: how often do users feel the need to fall back to human help?
Satisfaction
Satisfaction shows whether the product is meeting expectations.
CSAT: simple surveys asking users to rate their experience.
NPS: would they recommend the product to someone else?
Effort score: how easy was it to reach their goal using the AI?
Engagement
Engagement tells you if people keep coming back.
Retention: how many users return after the first try.
Feature usage: which AI features get adopted and which get ignored.
Depth of use: are users just testing, or are they relying on the AI for meaningful tasks?
Why These Metrics Matter
An AI model can look perfect on paper but fail in practice. Trust, satisfaction, and engagement reveal the real picture. They connect technical performance to user value and business outcomes.
